How many times have we seen garbage like this in the middle of the street, broken bottles of beer or cans of pop, tossed from cars owned by people who very likely live in our neighbourhoods? You are the ones who are always ready to point a finger at us; the great destroyers of the environment and your future. Well kids, my respect for the youths of today just dropped another percentage point because of the thoughtless actions of one of you. The Oakville Beaver is always writing of the good that many of our kids do; donating their time to help those less fortunate than we are here and in other lands. Our young people do great things and this makes me proud. But all it takes is one stupid act; vandalizing a playground, pulling the small trees that line our streets over double until they snap and yes, tossing your garbage out a car window. One stupid act can undo all the good that many teens do in this town. I doubt that you'll ever read this letter. After all, it's in a community newspaper and not on the back of an X-box game cartridge. But I feel better for writing it. RICK BERGERON Making a difference in the community I want to thank Big Brothers Big Sisters of Halton for the great service it provides for our community. I have been a volunteer with the organization for three months now, and been a witness to the positive impact its programs have on the children. It is truly amazing the kind of difference you can make in a child's life, just by being a part of it for a few hours a week. Unfortunately there is a great shortage of volunteers, especially male mentors. There are many different activities that you can participate in, and I encourage everyone to come out and have fun.
