OAKVILLE BEAVER · Wednesday, March 4, 2009 28 Volleyball all-star game Some of the best girls' volleyball talent in the region will be on display when the Halton Region Volleyball Club hosts the Halton High School all-star game tonight (Wednesday). All Halton high schools have been invited to send one senior team player to represent their school at the game, set for 7 p. m. at Burlington's Notre Dame Secondary School. It's a chance for the HRVC Hurricanes to promote the growing sport of volleyball. Teams will play a best-of-five match, followed by athlete-of-the game and Coach of the Year award presentations. HRVC technical director Felicity Tyson will present the awards. The club currently provides 120 athletes on 10 teams ages 10-18 with games and instruction. Oaks: Shannon Stack Minor peewees sport Canadian colours It wasn't the world junior hockey championships or the Olympics, but that didn't matter to the Oakville minor peewee AAA Rangers. The Rangers enjoyed the thrill of wearing Team Canada jerseys when they played in the Can-Am Collision tournament recently near Detroit. The tournament featured five Canadian minor peewee teams going head to head against American opponents in a similar format to the Ryder Cup international golf tournament, then playing a five-period game that pitted the five Canadian teams against the five American clubs. Oakville went 0-4-1 in the round robin, but the Rangers players helped Canada win the final game 6-1. Members of the Rangers are Michael Bullion, Scott Smith, Oliver Chau, Matt Spencer, Mitchell Prentice, Luke Whitehouse, Andrew Burns, Sam VasilarosWilson, Ashur Elliot, Jesse Barwell, Andrew Dumaresque, Michael Macdonald, Spencer Douglas, Boston Elliott, Misha Song, Josh Kosack and Cole Buchan.
