"Having worked with many volunteer organizations and as an active volunteer myself, I know how much it means to be recognized for the countless hours of work you dedicate to your cause," said Mayor Rob Burton at the awards' recent launch. "That's what the Community Spirit Awards are all about -- how volunteers of this town give selflessly for the betterment of our community and how we can applaud them for their efforts," said Burton. The awards selection committee wants to volunteer initiative, the Oakville Community Spirit Awards recognize individuals, organizations, businesses and groups who have made a valuable contribution to the Oakville community. Nina De Vaal, director of the Town's Recreation and Culture Department, encourages residents, organizations and corporations to get involved by nominating volunteers who have made a difference in their community.
