OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, March 13, 2009 · 32 Red Devils rally for Div. 2 girls' hockey title An early two-goal deficit wasn't enough to deter the Oakville Trafalgar Red Devils in last week's Halton high school girls' hockey Division 2 championship game at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. Leah Burke's third-period goal capped a three-goal rally by the Red Devils en route to a 3-2 victory over the Lester B. Pearson Patriots and the first girls' hockey title in OT history. Cassie Albertine had the Red Devils' other two goals, both coming in the second period and both assisted by Hayley Good. Christina MacLean and Chelsea Morrow assisted on Burke's game winner. Samantha Coley earned the win in net for the Red Devils, who finished the season with an 8-2-1 record. OT head coach Randy Beaver said the Red Devils' decision to play Division 2 this season -- OT struggled in Division 1 the previous two years -- was the right one. "It was worthwhile," he said. "My daughter (Erin Beaver) is graduating this year so I won't be helping out next year, but next year I would recommend they stay Tier 2 also." Other members of OT's championship team are Daniela Deschamps, Sara McCormick, Dana Ball, Marie Gutgesell, Hanna Moore, Jennifer Fallon, Sarah Hannay and Evelyn MacLean.
