"I've been playing the lottery for 25 years," said Ducharme, claiming his prize at the Maurice Toronto Prize Ducharme Centre earlier this week. "I haven't been able to sleep since I found out I won. Now, I plan to do everything I've ever wanted to do." Ducharme has four children, all of whom are married, and eight grandchildren. The only drawback to his excitement is that his wife, Pauline, passed away two years ago. Ducharme moved to Oakville from Windsor in 1953. Sinking floating house may soon be in drydock By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF See Senior page 3 It has been slowly sinking into Bronte Creek for more than a year now, but soon a dilapidated `floating house' could find itself on land for demolition. Ward 1 Councillor Ralph Robinson said talks are currently underway between the property owners, Amica Mature Lifestyles Inc. and Mady Development Corporation, and Conservation Halton with the latter expected to issue a permit for the removal of the floating house within the next few days. "I've been hearing this for a year," said Robinson. An intoxicated 15-year-old from Oakville did not mean to seriously harm another youth in a fight, a jury ruled Wednesday in finding him not guilty of manslaughter. Drew Hildebrand, 16, died in Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children on April 8, 2008, 10 days after falling and striking the back of his head during the brief scuffle. The accused teen, who had been held in custody since his arrest nearly a year ago, fell on top of Hildebrand during the fight outside a house party. They pushed and grabbed each other, Crown witnesses told a Milton courtroom. One said Hildebrand's head sounded like "an empty coconut shell" hitting the ground. The jury had to decide if the accused, now 16, intended serious harm in pushing Hildebrand to the ground. They took three hours to acquit him.
