47 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, April 17, 2009 community notices garage sales Obituary D I C K E Y, S u s a n n a h P a m e l a G r a c e (nee Carlson)- An accomplished musician, artist and writer who taught piano to aspiring musicians, young and old, died suddenly on Sunday, April 12, 2009 at her home in Oakville, Ontario. She was 61. Born in Vancouver, she held an ARCT from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto and earned an Honours Degree in Music at McMaster University in Hamilton. For many years she was a beloved teacher of piano to students in Oakville and Burlington, known for her unique teaching style that combined creative flair and attention to detail. An adept watercolour and sketch artist with a love of nature, Susannah's works are treasured by family and friends. Her writings in short fiction, poetr y and children's literature reflected her sharp wit, insatiable curiousity and good nature, inspiring all who read them. In her later years, she explored technology as a way to broaden her artisitic talents, studying at Sheridan College in Oakville. An avid fan of sports and the outdoors, Susannah loved the New York Yankees, hiking and sailing. She is sur vived by her mother, Madeline Carlson of Oakville, and siblings Madeline Ellis (Carlson) of Oakville, Tony (Donna) of Waterdown, Gus (Susan) of Bedford, New York, and brothe r- i n - l a w R i c h a r d D a v i s o f O t t a w a . Susannah was also a loving aunt to Megan Brown (Ellis), Theo Ellis, Eric and Patrick Davis, Katie and Jenny Carlson, Elizabeth and Madeline Carlson. Susannah's father, Donald Carlson, died in 1999 and another sister, Liza Davis (Carlson), died in 1987. He is survived by his beloved wife Florence Helena Day (Crowley), his 4 children and spouses: Wayne (Lynn), Noreen (Ken), Donna (Mike) and Gary; grandchildren: Kimberley and Jennifer; Ryan, Nicole and Spencer; Stephanie and Justin; greatgrandchildren: Rhys and Tela; Samuel and Sadie. Bob joined the Canadian Army in 1940 with the 17th Duke of York Royal Canadian Hussars; later joined the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals Army Physical Training Corps, as a sergeant, in Aldershot England. He proudly served in Normandy, and returned safely in 1945. He was a long term active member of The Fitness Institute in Mississauga, and an avid supporter of the Toronto Maple Leafs, Raptors and Blue Jays.
