OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, May 6, 2009 · 12 Halton Physician Appreciation Week MAY 4 TO 8, 2009 Recognizing Halton's Physicians " "Halton Hills and Georgetown Hospital are fortunate to have such a dedicated and professional group of physicians caring for our community. I continue to be impressed with their level of commitment, collaboration and expertise. Their teamwork and positive proactive approach always puts our patients at the centre of care." -Cindy McDonell, Chief Operating Officer of Georgetown Hospital and Program Leader of Georgetown Hospital Family Practice Halton Regional Chair During Halton Physician Appreciation Week we reflect on the importance of the physicians in Halton's first-rate medical community. Their commitment goes beyond the time spent in a practice or hospital setting. Doctors take a collaborative approach, participating in peer reviews and supporting each other by sharing their knowledge. They also mentor and educate medical students, other health professionals, and their patients. Some of them dedicate themselves to public health - providing health promotion and disease prevention programs for the benefit of all. Many physicians work with colleagues outside of Halton Region collaborating with other health care professionals in order to serve all Ontario patients better. They ensure that the care of patients remains foremost in government decisionmaking and public policy formation by working with organizations such as the Ontario Medical Association, the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care, the Canadian Medical Association, the College of Family Physicians of Canada, Local Health Integration Networks (LHINS). Like other Halton residents, doctors can also be found giving freely of their time volunteering in the community and helping to make Halton a wonderful place to live, work, raise a family and retire. In Halton, we are fortunate to have first-rate medical care available to us and we appreciate that our physicians make a real commitment to the community by choosing to practise here. Halton's Physician Recruitment Program has been working since 2003 to attract physicians to Halton to ensure that all residents have access to quality medical care.
