OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, July 15, 2009 · 28 Under-15B girls score dramatic win to take Iroquois Cup Jessica Demello made several diving saves in the final minutes of overtime and then turned away all four Brams United players in the shootout as the Oakville girls' under-15B team won the Iroquois Cup championship in Whitby. Victoria MacNeill and captain Meaghan Perrotta scored in the shootout to help secure the victory for Oakville. Brams United --- who knocked Oakville out a tournament in Oshawa last month -- came into the final with a perfect 3-0 record. Oakville, meanwhile, struggled early posting a pair of 2-2 draws against the Whitby Strikers and Markham Lightning to finish second in its pool. Oakville dominated Whitby B in the quarterfinal, scoring twice in the first five minutes on its way to a 6-0 victory. Six different players -- Perrotta, Pascale Rocca, Sulaymi Arriaza, Caitlin Hammill, Emma Mezgec and Dana Chomski -- scored for Oakville. In the semis, Oakville was pitted in a rematch against the Strikers. Hamill scored on a free kick over the Whitby wall and just out reach of the keeper to open the scoring. Whitby tied the game in the second half on a controversial goal. Demello made the initial save but the Whitby player appeared to kick it out of her hands. Oakville would prevail, though. Perrotta sent a beautiful feed to Erika Ty, who chipped the ball over the keeper for the winning goal. Hammill and Mezgec scored in the opening game against Whitby while midfielders Chloe Miller and Chomski scored in the draw with Markham. Also winning division titles, which were sponsored by Speedy Glass, were Francois Aubin in the peewee division, Jean Luc Aubin in the bantam division and Daniel Clarke in the junior division. The next bowling season begins in September and runs through May 2010. Titans hold off Herd for first home victory Colin George and Ryan Lovett each scored two touchdowns to lead the Oakville peewee Titans to their first home win of the season, a 33-25 victory over the Mississauga Thundering Herd. Lovett also threw a touchdown to Richard Froggat, who made a nice catch for the major. Mississauga threatened late in the game until the Titans' Danny Sprukulis recovered a Herd fumble.
