OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, August 12, 2009 · 4 Bogus delivery man invades Oakville home Halton police say a bandit dressed as a delivery courier attacked an Oakville woman with a noxious spray when she answered the door Monday. As the woman coughed and gagged the man barged into her Kestell Boulevard home and tied her up. A young child who was in the house at the time was overcome by fumes from the spray. Police say the intruder stole "an undisclosed amount of property" and left. The woman and child were treated at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and later released. Police did not say how police were notified and offered no description of the intruder. Acting Detective Sergeant Mark Underwood said this is the first robbery of this kind police have seen in Oakville and "it is unclear at this time if the victims were targeted for this." Underwood said in a statement police are warning homeowners to be "extra vigilant of any strangers at their door and take extra care if they are not expecting any packages to be delivered." The Empire Sandy will cruise along Oakville's shoreline and its harbours from Bronte Heritage Waterfront Park at the foot of Bronte Road. The Empire Sandy is a 200-foot topsail schooner and is the largest in Canada. Built in 1943, she sails with 11,000 square feet of sail and has double cannons that are fired at special times. Although the Empire Sandy can accommodate wheelchairs on deck; there is no wheelchair access to restrooms. Children's car seats and strollers are permitted as well as working service dogs.
