11 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, August 13, 2009 Region receives labour market grant Halton has received a $208,920 grant from the province to research, develop and implement strategies for small and mediumsized employers in the region. Funding for the Regional Labour Market Partnership was announced last week by Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn. Research for the project will include surveying 200 local employers to learn their needs and encourage greater awareness of the resources available in the region to help businesses develop human resources plans and training strategies across industrial sectors. "On behalf of Halton Regional Council, I would like to thank the province for investing in the Regional Labour Market Partnership," said Halton Regional Chair Gary Carr. "This innovative partnership between Halton Region and Employment Ontario works to support Halton residents today and well into the future." To celebrate the successes of the project, an event will be held for employers, trainers/educators, government representatives and community stakeholders to present the research findings and recommendations. A final report will be prepared for distribution and posting on the Halton Region website. This project is funded through Employment Ontario. Labour Market Partnerships are partially funded through the Canada-Ontario Labour Market Development Agreement effective Jan. 1, 2007. This agreement included the transfer of federal government projects, programs and staff to the provincial government.
