7 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, August 27, 2009 Wetland-enhancement grants available Have an idea to improve wetlands on your property? Landowners residing within the watersheds of Conservation Halton -- which includes Milton, Burlington and Oakville -- and the Hamilton Conservation Authority are eligible for grants toward the cost of approved projects that create or enhance wetlands. The funds are being delivered through the Hamilton-Halton Watershed Stewardship Program (HHWSP) to assist and encourage private landowners to protect, enhance and rehabilitate wetlands. This will ultimately lead to healthier watersheds. The opportunity is being made possible by Ducks Unlimited Canada and the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources. The benefits of healthy watersheds include a safe and secure water supply, healthy stream systems, increased recreational opportunities, sustainable agricultural operations and vibrant communities, states a press release issued by Hamilton and Halton conservation authorities. To find out if your wetland project is eligible, call the HHWSP's watershed stewardship technician at 905-336-1158, ext. 263 or 905525-2181, ext. 181 for a free, on-site consultation. Happy Feet!
