31 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, October 7, 2009 Obituaries Forthcoming Marriage Ken and Glenda Parkin & Peter and Betty Martens are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their children, Announcements Obituaries MAXWELL, Norman James S y l v e s t e r - O n T h u r s d a y, O c t o b e r 1 , 2009, in his 100th year, pre-deceased by his beloved wife of 72 years, Edith. Much loved by all of his family - son Roy and his wife Glynis, and her family; and his cherished grandchildren Paul and Elyse. Norm will be sorely missed by sister-in-law Norma McIntosh; his many nieces and nephews; and friends. Norm was a well-known Toronto musician and radio personality in the 1930's. Besides music, his other passion was horse racing. During the Depression, with Edith at his side, he played the ponies i n To r o n t o a n d o n t h e e a s t e r n U . S . seaboard to survive very tough times, prior to starting a business career with t h e T. E a t o n C o m p a n y L i m i t e d . I n 1942, he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy, playing trumpet with the H.M.C.S. Stadacona Band in Halifax. After the war, he returned to Eaton's, where he worked in senior management. Norm and Edith moved to Oakville in 1958 and, after retirement, Norm returned to horse racing and enjoyed remarkable success well into his late 80's. His life was complete with no regrets. Norm was very aware of his good fortune and considered himself blessed. The family expresses sincere gratitude to the staff at Alexander Place in Waterdown, for treating Norm with great respect and affection for the past seven years. Cremation has taken place. We will miss her terribly but for now we celebrate her life. Karin died so peacefully and with grace on Friday, October 2, 2009 at the age of 91. She had a beautiful life, living it fully and knowing she was blessed. She was born in Sweden and immigrated to Canada as a young girl to Northern Ontario. There she met the love of her life, the charismatic young dentist Claude Goodison, and lived a vibrant life with him and their children in Brockville, Ontario. She called Oakville, Ontario home for the last ten years so that she could watch her great-grandchildren grow up. Predeceased by her husband, she was a l o v i n g m o t h e r t o K a r i n - Ly n n ( B o b ) Cumming and Claudia (Rob) Lewis. An amazing Nana to Krista (Craig Auwaerter) Cumming, Robyn (Jon) Bowman, Curt (Sarah) Cumming, Shanee (Brandon) Lewis Wilson. She was also a ver y involved and funny Great-Nana to Max and Victoria A u w a e r t e r, A l e x a n d e r a n d G a b r i e l l e Bowman, Blythe and Adelaide Cumming and to a little "bean sprout" on the way for Shanee and Brandon. She had so much to be proud of! She will be remembered for her humor and ability to laugh at herself, her sharp mind, love of shopping and fashion, of food and chocolate and most importantly, the way she loved and bragged about her family.
