Warming up unlocked car is invitation for car theft Two Oakville residents who left their vehicles unlocked while running to warm up in their driveway had their cars stolen earlier this week. Halton police are investigating both cases of stolen vehicles, which occurred on different days, but in the same general area of Eighth Line Road between Upper Middle Road and Dundas Street. On Tuesday, Nov. 3, shortly before 9 a.m., an Eighth Line resident started his 2004 Acura and returned minutes later to find the unlocked car gone. On Wednesday, Nov. 4, shortly before 8:30 a.m., a North Ridge Trail resident started his 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser and left it unlocked with the engine running and returned to also find it gone. Investigators believe the incidents are related and are reminding residents these are crimes of opportunity. Police encourage people to do the following: · Use your garage if you have one · Never leave original vehicle ownership or driver's licence in a car · Never hide spare keys in a vehicle · Never leave a car running while unattended · Lock all valuables in the trunk · Always lock a vehicle. Police ask anyone with information related to the vehicle thefts this week to contact the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777, ext. 2215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477). 9 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, November 6, 2009 The Drape Lady: Customized design and service to suit your needs The Drape Lady H aving dressed thousands of windows over the past 20 years, Elisabeth knows the secrets of the trade and draws from a wealth of experience.
