The $MOMO committee, developed in 2007, believe Oakville and the surrounding community can raise funds and awareness for HIV/AIDS in Africa and to date the cam- Gliding Shelf Solutions Inc. paign has raised over $575,000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation (SLF). Grassroots projects are the focus of SLF, providing resources to small, front-line groups making the most of minimal resources to help turn the tide of HIV/AIDS in Africa. This fall two very successful events helped push $MOMO closer to its $1 million goal. Ann Mulvale, $MOMO cochair, celebrated her 60th birthday with Celebrating 60 and Changing Lives and raised more than $33,000 for the Stephen Lewis Foundation. In Amazing Race Against Time, teams of all ages competed in challenges across Oakville and raised an amazing $11,000. $MOMO has three more events lined up for November and December. Tonight, Friday, Nov. 13, Between Memory and Hope, a classical concert, will take place at St. Jude's Anglican Church, 160 William St., at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature a classical selection performed by tenor Mervyn Russell, soprano Aisha Talarico and the Arcady Sting Quartet. Tickets are $20 and available at the door. Kicking off the holidays, $MOMO will present a dramatic reading of Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol on Friday, Dec. 4 and Sunday, Dec. 6. This production will feature well-known radio personalities Judy Maddren, Barbara Budd, Vince Carlin, and Kevin Sylvester as well as Canadian actress Rosemary Dunsmore, and human rights activist Sally Armstrong. The St. Matthew Parish Choir will provide the musical accompaniment and festive carols. Tickets are $20 for adults, $10 for seniors (+65), students (-25) and children under 12 get in free on Sunday. On Saturday, Dec. 12, enjoy an Evening of Inspirational Music at St. Luke's Church. The concert will feature Allison Lynn and Gerald Flemming performing Southern Jazz, Gospel Music and Christmas favourites.
