27 · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, November 13, 2009 · www.oakvillebeaver.com Tune into OCS with newspaper By Anna Trikas, Nathan Greene, Hannah Elston GRADE 8, OAKVILLE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL ho is teacher of the month? Did the Jags win the floor hockey tournament last week? What is this month's advice? All this can be answered by picking up the Oakville Christian School Grade 8 enrichment cluster's newspaper. An enrichment cluster is a group of students interested in a topic, like creative writing. Our project is imitating a newspaper. We will write about important and upcoming events in our school and present them in a newspaper format. We will have jobs including columnists, reporters, photographers, editors, illustrators, interviewers, and students in charge of design and layout. Each student has been assigned a job. Writers will prepare columns about events and sports outings within our school and hand them in to students in charge of design and layout. Our editor will choose where each column and picture is to be placed. The editor will also choose the format and layout of the paper. Photographers will take pictures of events. To meet all tastes and interests, our paper will offer a variety of school news, sports, entertainment, comics, jokes, advice, upcoming events and a puzzles and crossword section. The paper will be printed at our school, and distributed to students. A newspaper cluster is important for the students of OCS because it will give them a sense of community and will familiarize them with newspapers in a fun, creative way while informing them of current events at the school. Our newspaper will carry kidfriendly content. Our school mission statement is, "We are committed to instilling confidence in young lives during their formative years, and cultivating in its students solid Christian character traits and values." With a school newspaper, we can help inform students about what we believe as Christians, reinforce what is important to our school and community and give students a fun way to participate in school activities. Our first edition will be out this month so to find out what is going on at Oakville Christian School, pick up the OCS Advocate and you'll be plugged in to our school community. W
