It was there that he suffered his injury, but it didn't devastate him. It just forced him start his second career a little earlier than he had planned. "I've always wanted to be a player agent," said Bonanno, who was born in Toronto, then moved to Oakville before eventually relocating to Burlington. Oak Sports Management was formed less than a year ago, as Bonanno teamed with Don Webster and Peter Lambert, president and VP, respectively. Being one of the youngest sports agents in the business gives Bonanno the youthful enthusiasm to keep up with the more weathered ones in the field. "A lot of the agents won't give us the time of day," he said. "Others will ask us scouting questions they already know the answer to just to test us, but that's OK, we respect that." Bonanno's motto is "womb to tomb" care of his clients, whether it be before, during or after an athletic career. "The only thing one of our clients should worry about is playing the game," added. "We'll take care of everything else." His client list includes Canadian Randy Schwartz and Americans Andy Simunic and John Goryl. He's also good friends with exteammates from the area, including Tom Boleska, Nick Weglarz, Scott Diamond, Tim Smith and Joey Votto. There are others who work for OSM such as Bonanno's friend Nick Mayo of North Carolina, another relatively young man for the profession at 23 years of age. Minor league baseball prospects dominate their client lists but they're not restricted to the baseball diamond. "North Carolina is big in football, of course," said Mayo, who met Bonanno in Florida and will recruit in the U.S. southeast. "We're going to have people in the baseball hot spots such as Texas, Florida and Arizona," added Bonanno, "but we're just getting into hockey and other sports." OSM's website is in the process of opening and Bonanno is heading off to the winter baseball meetings in Indianapolis next week. "We're the first to hit this market around here," said Bonanno.
