"We now know Stuart Miller, Maple Grove is superintendent of education unlikely to be ready for East Oakville schools. for September, it isn't 100 per cent definitive that it won't be, but it is pretty unlikely," confirmed Stuart Miller, superintendent of education for east Oakville schools. An architect has been assigned to the project and preliminary sketches have been drafted. However, neither site plan approval nor building permits have been issued at this point. The renovations to the existing building are expected to take place throughout the summer. There are two construction scenarios for the addition, which board staff labels as a `substantial' building. A spring start would mean completion by the fall. This early start is unlikely due to necessary permit approvals and student safety issues, according to Gerry Cullen, superintendent of facility services. But thanks to last-minute pleas to the public -- and members of the community stepping up to the plate -- the Salvation Army surpassed its goal. "We were so pleased that in the last day alone, thanks to the media coverage and concerned community members (donors and kettle volunteers), we not only met our goal, but surpassed it," said Aisha Chaney, community services co-ordinator with the Salvation Army, Oakville. "Our 2009 campaign ended with a total of $114,585 collected at our nine donation kettles combined. Our goal was $107,000," said Chaney. "This will allow us to address service needs and program areas for 2010 to meet the needs of our growing clientelle," said Chaney.
