Prorogued but not idle 7 · Thursday, January 28, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Continued from page 6 More important than this parliamentary procedure is that your government is doing a lot of important work when Parliament is not sitting. While the coalition parties were organizing protests, the prime minister and the ministers were immersed in co-ordinating aid for Haiti, including sending some 2,000 Canadian troops and facilitating the timely adoptions of Haitian orphans. We can all be proud that, unlike after the Tsunami in 2005, this time Canadian help began arriving in the disaster area within 48 hours. Our government purchased Canada's own heavylift aircraft with which to do such important work. On Jan. 25, Prime Minister Harper chaired an international meeting in Montreal to help co-ordinate aid to Haiti. We can all be proud that Canada is leading this international effort and will be matching every dollar that Canadians donate for aid to Haiti. In recent weeks, the PM also visited several cities, including Toronto, where he met with our GTA caucus to hear our input for the coming throne speech and budget and in Ottawa where he led our national caucus meeting. I consulted with local businesses, the Oakville Chamber of Commerce and then Oakville constituents to hear their input for the budget and passed their ideas and concerns along to the minister of finance. In January, I also represented Canada in Taiwan on a trade mission as a guest of the Taiwanese people, meeting with the Taiwanese president, vice president, senior ministers and the leader of the opposition to promote trade. Please be assured your members of Parliament are working day to day leading up to the throne speech and budget in March. 905.847.7333 or toll free 1.866.707.7333 Serving Oakville Since 2005 · airport flat rates · 24 hr. service · commercial accounts · local & out-of-town · luxury sedans edwinlimoinc@yahoo.com s r r TM WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?
