JOHN YATES: At left, Jeff "Percy" Lang of the band, Still Garage, performs while, right, Oakville's Dr. John Yates speaks at a fundraiser held in the physician's honour last Saturday at The Firehall Cool Bar Hot Grill in Bronte. The fundraiser, organized by Oakville resident Krista Downey Smith, drew a packed house and raised $11,000 in support of Yates and his family's work in Haiti. Yates and his wife Sandy Noble Yates, have worked in Haiti on and off for 30 years. Their children -- Melanie, 26, Ryan, 25, Jason, 23 and Liana, 21-- spent a good portion of their childhood there as well. Melanie is now married to Haitian Jean Philippe Brierre. Now, the family is helping rebuild Grace Children's Hospital run by International Child Care (ICC). For more information, visit www.internationalchildcare.org.
