The Beaver walked away with two awards in the recent competition, which received thousands of entries from newspapers across Canada and the United States. Other Halton Division Metroland papers also scored great successes in the competition as the Burlington Post received a total of seven awards while the Flamborough Review earned six and the Milton Canadian Champion captured three. These awards ranged in category from best editorial writing to best sports section to best breaking news coverage. Metroland Media Group received a grand total of 93 SNA awards from this year's competition. "These awards reflect the hard work and dedication shown by the reporters, photographers and editors at The Oakville Beaver." n Jill Davis, editor in chief, Halton Division "These awards reflect the hard work and dedication shown by the reporters, photographers and editors at The Oakville Beaver," said Halton Division Editor in Chief Jill Davis. "Suburban Newspapers of America noted the number of awards Metroland garnered and made a special mention of Halton Division. I am very proud of all the staff who work tirelessly to produce strong community news for our loyal readers." Living editor Angela Blackburn received a third place standing in the best feature category for her story entitled, Breaking the Cycle. Photographer Karen Newman was received an honourable men- tion in the best photojournalism category for her picture of a raccoon stuck halfway inside a hollow tree. The number of awards raked in by Metroland papers was also well received by Metroland Media Group President Ian Oliver.
