Community Spirit Award winners will receive unique art sculptures Long-time Oakville resident and artist Michael Young has been selected by the Town to create the individual art pieces that will be presented to the Community Spirit Award winners. The art pieces will be unveiled at the awards ceremony on Wednesday, June 16. "We wanted to create something different for our Community Spirit Award winners," said Nina deVaal, director of recreation and culture. "The program was created by the Town to capture our community's unique spirit and the sculptures truly reflect this." Young won his first award for sculpture when he was 16, then became a professional engineer, but returned after 17 years to pursue his passion for art. Graduating with honours from the sculpture and installation program at the Ontario College of Art and Design in 2000, he has undertaken many commissions and received numerous awards for his work. significant impact volunteers have towards making Oakville the most livable town in Canada.
