www.oakvillebeaver.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, May 6, 2010 · 10 Family fun at Police Day on Saturday Important transportation news for brain injury survivors living in Halton Peel Halton Acquired Brain Injury Services (PHABIS) is a publicly funded agency providing services to survivors of acquired brain injury and their families, from the regions of Peel and Halton. As you are no doubt aware, it has been difficult to secure transportation that will cross the boundary between Peel and Halton making our services less accessible if you live in the communities of the Region of Halton. The Halton Regional Police Service is calling on all residents to visit its 1151 Bronte Rd. headquarters on Saturday, May 8 for the 11th annual Police Day. The family-friendly festival and celebration of policing in Halton takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., rain or shine, and features interactive displays, demonstrations from various police units and information service booths provided by a number of Halton police community partners. Crime Stoppers of Halton will be hosting a barbecue during the event, offering food at great prices with some of the funds going towards supporting the Crime Stoppers program. Children's activities will be available with the event also featuring children's rides, magic shows, clowns, balloons, music and face painting. Well-known musician Mary Lambert will be on hand to perform safety-themed songs on such topics as strangers, bullying and bicycle safety. Safety-themed magic will also be taking place courtesy of Oakville magician Aaron Paterson. The Halton Police Pipes & Drums band will also be performing and the Children's Safety Village will allow young children to drive a closed course while being taught important safety tips. In addition, the MasoniChip Child Identification Program will have an information and display booth where parents can find information about the program and see how it can be utilized in missing child cases. Those wishing to attend Police Day should be advised that onsite parking is limited, however, a complimentary shuttle service will be transporting guests from Bronte Creek Provincial Park, Lot D, off Burloak Drive (exit 109 from the QEW and travel north). Those attending are also asked to leave their pets at home.
