Thieves target watches at jewellery stores Halton police have one man in custody and are searching for another after thieves simultaneously targeted a pair of jewellery stores inside the Oakville Place Mall on Tuesday. Police said the incidents took place around noon when a man walked into Raffi Jewellers and asked to see some watches from the display case. After trying on watches, the man grabbed two watches, valued at $5,000 each, and ran out the store. At the same time, a second man, police believe to be the first suspect's accomplice, entered the Birks Jewellery Store, also in Oakville Place Mall, and asked to see several watches from the display case. Police said this suspect grabbed four watches, valued at a total of $20,000, before running out the store. Police located a suspect outside the mall and after a brief chase an arrest was made with the four watches from the Birks Jewellery Store recovered. The suspect from the Raffi Jewellers theft is still at large. He is described as being 20 years of age, 6-foot-3, very thin, with dark hair, dark eyebrows and wearing a black t-shirt and black pants. Vadim Potiyenko, 18, of Thornhill has been charged with theft over $5,000.
