Proposed office complex could block police radio tower A cluster of office and commercial buildings, including two nine-storey office towers, has been proposed for lands on Bronte Road, just south of the Halton Regional Centre property. The proposal calls for the construction of three one-storey commercial buildings along Bronte Road, as well as the two office towers along the North Service Road. A public meeting on the application held on Monday night raised two concerns about the more than 400,000 square feet of development on the five-acre property 5 · Wednesday, June 9, 2010 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.oakvillebeaver.com Two nine-storey office towers proposed for Bronte Road property just north of the QEW. Nearby resident Patrick Murphy expressed concern about the traffic that would be generated by such a development. "From about 4:30 (p.m.) to somewhere around six o'clock, Bronte Road is a bumper-to-bumper parking lot," he said. The majority of the cars filling 760 parking spots on the Halton Regional site empty onto nearby roadways during that time, said Murphy. The proposed new complex, which would presumably see employees working similar business hours, would have 1,497 parking spots provided primarily in a twolevel underground parking garage. Murphy suggested the Town of Oakville should restrict development on the site to buildings of no more than two-storeys, and with a maximum of 500 parking spots. Town councillors also heard from Halton Police Services planner Keith Moore, who expressed concern that the two office towers could interfere with the operation of the radio tower system that facilitates radio communications for the region's police and emergency services. The application to the Town by QEWBronte Developments Inc. and a numbered Ontario company is a revised version of an application made in 2007, which originally called for commercial, office and residential development on the property. Town planning staff will investigate the concerns raised and bring a recommendation report on the proposed development to Town council in the coming months. Save More Event
