Racing dragon boats for the kids The seventh annual Tiger-Tel Oakville Charity Dragon Boat Festival is coming, giving people a chance to participate in a fun and competitive activity and support a charity. The dragon boat event will take place Sunday, Aug. 15 at the Kelso Conservation Park in Milton. Money will be raised through pledges and donations for Halton's Children's Aid Foundation as well as other causes, local and abroad, supported by the Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar. The event is expected to feature 70 teams competing, along with a wide selection of food and beverages, a beer tent and musical entertainment. Dragon Boat is the fast-growing traditional Asian sport. Each boat has 20 paddlers, ten per side, paddling in a seated position. Last year the event raised $50,000 and this year organizers have a target of $100,000. Anyone can enter, both teams and individuals from expert to beginner, with limited spots still available. Visit www.oakvilledragon.com for more information.
