Recently I picked up a cookbook full of great, easy recipes using local ingredients, but which also turned out to be a fantastic read, The Best of Chef at Home: Essential Recipes for Today's Kitchen. Coming from Canadian chef Michael Smith, author of many great cookbooks and presenter of the Chef at Home TV series, it is easy to see why Michael's passion for seasonal ingredients and local produce has made him a firm Canadian favourite when it comes to matters of the kitchen. This cookbook encourages all of us to be `\good neighbours, by locally sourcing as many of your ingredients as possible (which, lets face it, taste better, help support your local farmers and food artisans and ultimately are good for the Earth). Smith believes, "a table full of local flavour and creative energy is one life's great miracles." Some cookbooks are also available via e-book and audio book so you can touch up on your culinary skills in other ways or settle down and listen to the hilarious Julie and Julia audiobook documenting a year in the life of Julie Powell who cooks and lives through well-known chef Julia Childs. I Hate to Cook by Peg Braden also offers those less enthusiastic chefs a chance to shine. There really is something for everyone at your local Oakville Public Library Branch, so let's get out there and enjoy what we have on our doorsteps while the sun shines. -- Submitted by the Oakville Public Library
