A wine tasting event is taking place at Oakvilles Cucci Ristorante, 119 Jones St., on Wednesday, Sept. 22. This is the first event of the 2010- 2011 season presented by Oakville chapter of the Ontario Wine Society. Organizers promise the event will be both educational and entertaining for wine lovers. The event is titled Awaken Your Wine Senses and will be hosted by Peter Bodnar Rod, a wine educator, certified sommelier and the director of sales, marketing and hospitality for 13th Street Winery. Rod will help participants savour the smells and tastes of oak and malo influences, maturing and softening of tannins and acidity while residual sugars will lead tasters to discover the effect of foods on the perception of these flavours and textures. The wines at the event will be: 13th Street 2000 Blanc de Noirs Brut, Funk Vineyard 2009 Riesling ($23.95), June's Vineyard 2009 Chardonnay ($17.95) compared to 2007 Sandstone Vineyard Old Vines Chardonnay ($27.95), Funk Vineyard 2007 Pinot Noir ($34.95) compared to Old Vines 2005 Gamay (library stock $25.95), 13 Below Zero 2008 Riesling (library stock $18.95). The Oakville Toastmasters Club has announced that Mayor Rob Burton will officially proclaim October as Toastmaster Month for the Town of Oakville. October is the Toastmaster Month, however, the proclamation will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 9 at the Quality Inn, 754 Bronte Rd. The event will also be a kickoff for the Toastmaster fall season. Burton will read the proclamation and with him will be the Town Crier Chris Pederson-Brown, who will announce him, along with the executive mem- bers of the club. Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization, which has been teaching valuable communica- tion and leadership skills to people around the globe for more than 85 years. There are currently more than 250,000 members in 12,500 clubs in 106 countries. In Oakville, Toastmasters clubs have been active members of the community for over fifty years.
