Oakville Soccer Clubs under-11A boys squad went undefeated in its first four games, including a come- from-behind win in the semifinals, to earn silver at the recent Henderson Memorial Soccer Tournament in London. Oakville defeated the Brampton Blast 2-1 and Oshawa Red Falcons 4-1, then tied London United 1-1 in pool play to finish first in its group. In the semifi- nals, Oakville overcame a 3-1 deficit at halftime to defeat the Dixie Athletics 4-3 in extra time. Anthony Taylor provided the golden goal, converting a pass from Dylan Serpa. In the championship game, Oakville fell 4-1 to the Burlington Hammers, a squad considered by many as one of the top three clubs in the province. We left everything on the field this weekend with results above everyones expectations, said Oakville coach Paul Marques. After showing strength, belief and pride, the boys also showed class in the way they celebrated victory and accepted defeat. U11 boys second at Henderson tournament SILVER IN LONDON: The Oakville Soccer Clubs under-11A boys team won silver at the Henderson Memorial Soccer Tournament in London. Blades open season with victory The Oakville Blades opened the Provincial Junior Hockey League season Tuesday with a 6-4 win over the Buffalo Jr. Sabres in Buffalo. Braedon Russell, Kyle Lysaght and Kyle Blaney scored in the open- ing 10 minutes of the game to give the Blades a quick 3-0 lead. Buffalo responded with three straight goals of its own to tie the game early in the second period, but Michael Sardella and Blake Roubos tallied to give Oakville a 5-3 lead after 40 minutes. Josh Ranalli added an empty-netter with 13 seconds to go in regulation. Goaltender Eric Faion earned the victory in his Blades debut, stopping 40 of 44 shots. The Blades will host the Newmarket Hurricanes at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow (Friday) in their first-ever game at the new Sixteen Mile Sports Complex facility.
