Halton Cowboys rep teams split their four games last weekend in Southwestern Ontario Football Association of Leagues play. The tyke and peewee white Cowboys both posted victories, while the atom and peewee red squads went down to defeat. The bantam Cowboys had a bye last weekend. Haltons tykes easily handled the Brantford Bisons 24-6, improving to 4-2 on the season and solidifying their chances of making the Division 1 playoffs. Jamieson Boulanger, Brandon Hughes and Michael McCartney helped Haltons offensive line control the line of scrimmage throughout the game. Defensively, Brady Elliot had a sack and a tackle in the backfield, and Matthew Guthro ran back a forced fumble for a touchdown. The peewee white Cowboys also defeated Brantford in decisive fashion, prevailing by a 19-6 count. The Bisons returned a punt for a touchdown early in the game, but it was all Halton after that. Fullback Lucas Montgomery scored a touchdown late in the first half to tie the score, and running back Jack Berczi reached the end zone in the second half to give Halton the lead. Dante Iacoviello added a major on a quarterback sneak, then completed a pass to Ryan Rizu for a convert. Rizu also recovered a fumble in the victory. Zack Bahlu, Tate Sharp, Brendan Holk and both the offen- sive and defensive lines also had strong efforts for Halton. The atom Cowboys were blanked 24-0 by the Hamilton Panthers. Braden Pinto racked up 100 yards on kick returns in a los- ing cause, and Adam Lahda forced a fumble and had a quarterback sack. Carter Haywood added a great tackle in the third quarter to deny Hamilton a first down, and Lauren Davis carried the ball for 30 yards in the fourth quarter. The peewee red Cowboys fell 36- 0 to Cambridge. No details from that contest were available. ph: 1-(800)-905-0270 Adult Hockey Schools Average & Lower Level Players Men & Women Register Now for Fall/Winter Programs Oakville School - Sunday Nights Oakville League - Thursday/Sunday Burlington School - Friday Mornings + Many More Across GTA! We didnt think we had a chance of winning after the first few races, said the 24-year-old White Oaks graduate, who blew his engine at the first event of the Canadian Vintage Modified Series season, then spun out and crashed at the series second race. We were a little discour- aged... we had worked on the car all winter long and were doing a lot so we could start the year off well, and that didnt happen. In the end, the slow start only made things more interesting. A handful of top-three finishes over the next several races slowly moved Keen up the standings to the point that he once again became a contender for the series championship. In the final race of the season, Keen drove his 1931 Chevrolet Coach-modeled car to victory at Flamboro Speedway, edging out the team of Steve Lyons and T.J. Woolsey by two points for the series title. In winning the series champi- onship, Keen matched a feat accomplished by grandfather Bob 53 years earlier at the Canadian National Exhibition. Back then, it was the Amateur Racing Series. I know all about that, said Keen, who switched his car number from 42 to Bobs old No. 18 last season. My grandfather comes to every race. Hes excited about it. Keen credited much of his successful season to supportive parents Randy and Kim as well as friends Blair Goddard and Robert DiRisio. Randy, owner of Oakville Automotive Machine Shop, owns the car and built the 250-cubic- inch engine with Jason. Goddard and DiRisio also did work on the car. The Canadian Vintage Modified Series, dedicated to pre- serving the roots of stock car rac- ing, holds races at Flamboro, Mosport, Sunset, Sauble, Barrie and Delaware speedways.
