it should be a great night. However good she said that concert will be, Morrison doesnt want people to forget about the caroling event either. The reason why people should be inter- ested in the community carol is because if you enjoy singing along with carols and you dont really have a chance to, perhaps youre not a member of a church or anything, its a great opportunity to come out and hear a few choired carols and sing along with your favourites, she said. The Dec. 4 concert will take place at 7 p.m. St. Andrews church is located at 47 Reynolds St. General admission is $25 or $15 for students and seniors, available at the door. Sarah Morrison was named winner of Ontarios prestigious Leslie Bell Prize for Choral Conducting, which is awarded every two years to a person who has been in the profession for less than 10 years. The award is valued at $10,000 and is adjudicated by a panel of choral musicians from across Ontario. "I am very excited and honoured to have been chosen as the Leslie Bell Prize recipient for 2010 in a province like Ontario where there are so many vibrant choral programs led by passionate and talented choral con- ductors," Morrison said in a press release. She has been directing the childrens choir since 2007 and also leads the choral program at Appleby College. She also con- ducted the childrens choir on tour in Greece this past summer, which won three silver medals. Morrison grew up in Mississauga and attended Lorne Park Secondary School where she was an active participant in the school music program, performing with choirs, bands and in school musicals. She was also the student conductor of the Concertina Chamber Choir for two years and travelled with the group to Musicfest Canada where it achieved silver standing. Aside from conducting, she was also a first soprano with the Toronto Mendelssohn Youth Choir. The Leslie Bell award was established by the Ontario Arts Council to support choral conducting, in the name of the late choir conductor, educator, writer, arranger and composer of the same name. Morrison is scheduled to receive her award at the childrens choirs upcoming concert, Saturday, Dec. 4 at St. Andrews Catholic Church in downtown Oakville.
