Six master sand sculptors have descended upon Brontes Waterfront Heritage Park for the Bronte Harbour Invitational Sand Sculpting Competition as part of the Harbour Days event, a festival that celebrates Bronte Harbours marine heritage and origins as a commercial fishery. The event is a presentation of the merchants of the Bronte Business Improvement Area, the Ontario Ministry of Tourisms Celebrate Ontario program and corporate sponsors. Burlingtons Karen Fralich, a three-time world champion sand sculptor and the contests honourary chair, was welcomed along with sculptors from across Canada competing for first, second and third place as well as Peoples Choice in the con- test. This summer, 15 recipients received a combined total of $98,000 distributed across various heritage and culture, media, lit- erary, visual, and per- forming arts groups. These grants allow the arts community to cultivate, develop and produce programs that enrich the lives of Oakville residents and its important to see these groups flourish, said Mayor Rob Burton. fArts and culture are a vital part of the livability o Oakville. Its that livability that helps attract the kind of investment in new jobs our community wants. Administered by the Oakville Arts Council on behalf of the Town of Oakville, the grant assists local not-for-profit arts, heritage and culture groups with their operating and program costs.
