By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Supporters of charitable e-gam- ing walked away with a Bingo Monday night, after council unani- mously voted to reverse last weeks committee decision to prohibit e-Bingo in Oakville. Instead, council unanimously voted to endorse the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporations initiative on Charitable Bingo and Gaming Revitalization (e-Bingo) after it was clarified the move would not be a gateway that would see slot machines and other electronic gambling take root in Oakville. A staff report had indicated that under the new program, it is esti- mated the Towns annual Bingo licencing revenues will fall from f$200,000 to $115,000, a decrease o $85,000 in 2012 alone. With approximately 34 local charities relying on charitable Bingo to provide them with revenue, the issue drew considerable community interest with more than 150 people packing council chambers Monday night. Council heard from six delega- tions, which included representa- tives from the Ontario Charitable Gaming Association, the Oakville fLions Club, the Optimist Club o Oakville, the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) and Oakville Delta Bingo. l d hCounci si es wit e-Bingo supporters See Charities page 7 Integrity officer clears mayor By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Town of Oakvilles Integrity Officer has concluded sanctions against Oakville Mayor Rob Burton are not warranted for alleged mis- conduct during the recent federal election. Council voted Monday night to receive the final report on Integrity Officer Robert Swayzes investiga- tion, which was conducted in response to a series of complaints made by Oakville MP Terence Young. fTo avoid any perceived conflict o finterest, Burton recused himsel from the vote to receive Swayzes report, however, he later issued a statement on its findings. I am satisfied with the process and accept the findings in the Integrity Officers report, said Burton. At the conclusion of his investi- gation, Swayze said he found no evidence to support the allegation that Burton improperly used his influence and Town resources to promote Ward 6 Town Councillor and Oakville Liberal candidate Max Khan in the federal election.
