ERIC RIEHL / OAKVILLE BEAVER Funnyman Glen Foster on hour-long Comedy Now special By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF Just over a decade ago, Glen Foster appeared in a Comedy Now episode. Now, the Oakville funnyman will tell you hes back by popular demand on the show with a one-hour long special on Friday, Aug. 26 on The Comedy Network. And he says his observational humour has changed with the rest of the world since that time. Think of how the world has changed since then, he said. In 2000 we still had a fairly idealistic world. In 2001 everything changed and for me everything really changed. My daughter was born in May and the world went dark in September. Were now coming up on the 10th year anniversary of 9/11. Since 2000, when he appeared in a half-hour seg- ment on Comedy Now, his act has changed consider- ably. Ive done a lot of commenting since on the state of the world and terrorism and technological advances and a lots gone on, he said. Because the show is filmed in advance, it requires comedians to be careful with what jokes they tell. When you shoot these things you have to be careful not to be too topical, he said. The Comedy Network is not the only television chan- nel Foster appears on. The comedian, who also goes by his moniker of That Canadian Guy, also appears each Friday night on Sun News Networks Byline with Brian Lilley at 9 p.m. On the show he does a short segment, which appears close to the end of the show. This week, the Comedy Now spe- cial will appear right after, though on a different channel. Foster says there are a number of reasons why people should tune in to see his hour-long showing. Most people only get a half-hour episode so I must be special to get an hour, he said with a laugh. Secondly, theres a lot of Canadian content. Its tricky, you cant be too topical, but Im always taking shots at the government and certainly since 9/11 theres a lot more new world order to comment on. The show will air at 10 p.m. For more information on Foster, visit www.thatcana- dianguy.com.
