Not only is the choir excited about its inclusion, but to add to the honour, the song chosen for the Scotiabank Bright Future proj- ect was written by the OCCs own members. I sent them six Canadian songs we recorded and they chose that one. I didnt just push that one for it, said Sarah Morrison, the OCCs artistic director. The words to the song, titled 3, 2, 1 was written by the OCCs inter- mediate choir member, Robert O Halloran, which won the OCCs Youth Poetry Contest last year. As the winner, the words were set to music, composed by the OCCs associate artistic director Janet Stachow. Shes happy, Morrison said of Stachow. Its exciting. Having a song included in a CD-DVD is always a positive for someone. They chose the song because its upbeat and rhythmic. The song is about children play- ing outside during recess. It is one of two Canadian recordings to be included in the CD. The Bright Future production will feature music by choirs from around the globe in a CD-DVD package that will be sold at Scotiabank branches around the world. The CD will feature the musical recordings, while the DVD will feature bits about the choirs them- selves. The OCC will be filmed mid- September at Coronation Park. The location was chosen for its aesthetic appeal. Because this features videos of choirs from around the world, they want the outdoor Lake Ontario, Oakville, town in Ontario look, Morrison said. Instead of us per- forming in a church, or a school, or concert hall, which would be cool, they want to show the differ- ent landscapes. The inclusion was also a bit of a surprise. It just sort of happened over the summer. I havent even had a chance to talk to the choristers about it because I havent seen them since June, Morrison said. The OCC breaks for the summer months. The inclusion in the CD will also help the OCC keep to its mis- sion, which is to provide choral, musical and performance training, educating choristers in leadership as well as philanthropic and com- munity involvement. I think were all excited to be a part of it, Morrison added. Not only is it a fantastic cause, Im just eager to see where it could lead. Maybe another choir may watch it and might want to do an exchange. Sometimes projects like this can lead to so many interesting things. Were glad to be a part of it for the cause and to make more connec- tions through music. The OCC recorded the song just before it broke for the summer. The music itself will also be includ- ed in a publication. The OCC has programs for chil- dren from a very young age, all the way through to the senior high school level. Auditions The OCC is looking for young singers for the upcoming season, aged five to 18. The last remaining audition will be held on Saturday, Sept. 10 from 9 a.m. to noon. The OCC provides choral, musi- cal and performance training. Those interested are asked to book an appointment by visiting www. oakvillechildrenschoir.org, by email to info@oakvillechildren- schoir.org, or by phone at 905-337- 7104.
