Halton Regional Police did not release the identify of the victim, Donna Teal. Teal's son, Rob, said his mother was making her way into the casino from the parking lot when she was struck by the vehicle. Sgt. Paul Davies of the Halton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit said Teal was dragged under the vehicle for about 10 metres. Emergency services were called to the front entrance area of the Guelph Line racetrack about 5:30 p.m. Teal was found pinned underneath a 2003 Kia Sorrento at the front entrance roundabout. A Halton Regional Police constable, who was at Mohawk on an unrelated matter, reached Teal almost immediately, but she was unresponsive and had no vital signs. Paramedics pronounced her dead at the scene. The driver of the Kia, a 77-year-old Oakville woman, whose name police also did not release, was uninjured, but became distressed and was transported to hospital as a precaution. Halton Police Collision Reconstruction Unit officers were called to the racetrack and took over the investigation. A portion of the roundabout was closed for several hours while recontured," said Davies. Davies said it was too early to comment on any charges. Security from both Mohawk Race Track and the OLG, as well as the OPP Casino Investigation and Enforcement Bureau assisted investigators with the incident. Rob Teal said his mother, who has lived in Acton for approximately 25 years, loved playing the slots. "She loved the casino," he said. She worked as an assistant cook and housekeeper at Upper Canada College in Norval for 17 years, and was thinking about retiring in the next couple of years. Rob said her two grandchildren Damian, 4 and Eden 2, were her world. "She was a proud grandma." He said she was "everybody's mom." "I've got friends who call her mom," he said. Two years ago his mother battled cancer. "She went through all the treatment and was in remission with a near clean bill of health," said Rob. Teal is survived by her son Rob, daughter-in-law Dawn, grandchildren Damian and Eden, and siblings Allan and Bonnie Pyle. She is pre-deceased by her parents Veleta and Ed Pyle and brother Laurie. Davies said Teal was in the crosswalk at the time of the impact. He said the sun was low on the horizon when the incident occurred and that the driver, "would have been pretty well driving into direct sunlight." Davies said there were two security cameras at the entrance. Police have seen the one video, however, the incident was blocked by a pillar.
