Though the Vikings rolled to a 4-0 overall record at the competition, outscoring their opponents 15-3, the championship game was a tight and dramatic affair. Troy Peterson provided the game's only goal, potting an unassisted marker in sudden-death overtime to give Oakville a 1-0 win over Erindale. Kevin Kocken recorded the shutout and was named the game's first star, while Peterson earned second-star honours with his heroics. Earlier in the tournament, Oakville blanked the West Mall Lightning 6-0, defeated the Applewood Selects 3-1 and downed the Caledon Blackhawks 5-2. Peterson had a hat trick against West Mall while Jack Arfin and Connor Droog scored twice each versus Caledon. Also scoring in the tournament were Adam Colavecchio, Matthew James, Keven Mastri and Andrew Manore. Jack Hadlow, Dylan Smith and Cole Ouellette contributed assists. Kevin Kocken earned the shutout against West Mall. Other members of the squad are Zachary Nott, Anastasia Tolfa, Andrew Russ, Alex Santamaria and Alex Pace. MINORHOCKEY The Vikings won the league-first championship in the regular season and had strong showings at two other atom select tournaments this past year. Novice Vikings also crowned The Oakville novice Vikings also concluded their year with a tournament title, winning the championship at the Mississauga IceDogs Spring Reps competition. The tournament featured an allOakville final as the Vikings took on the Bandits, and there was little separating the two squads. In fact, the game went through two overtime periods and one shootout round before the Vikings finally won it, with Alexander Ishmael potting the shootout winner. Jayson Ziegel had scored for the Vikings during regulation time, while Graeme Parker countered for the Bandits. Other members of the champion Vikings are Callum Mcdonald, Aiden Robitaille, Justin Inacio, Tyler Rolczewski, Bradley Byers, Mac Jamieson, Jack Caldwell, Christian Oates, Zachary Foweather, Zachary Ribau and Liam Durroch. He was invited to Canada's world junior training camp and was the starting goalie for Canada at the recent under-18 world championships. Gagner ranked sixth Former Oakville Trafalgar High School student Sam Gagner is rated sixth among North American skaters, slipping from third in the mid-season rankings. He is still expected to be a top-10 pick in the draft. The London Knights centre, who was named to the OHL's all-rookie team this week, finished fifth in the Ontario Hockey League scoring race with 35 goals and 118 points in 53 games. He won a gold medal with Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championships in January. Oakville's draft class could have been even bigger, except that John Tavares of the Oshawa Generals isn't eligible for another two years. The 16-year-old led the league with 72 goals and was second in league scoring with 134 points.
