The YMCA of Oakville, as well as those across Canada, will offer activities that will help explore peace from personal, local and global perspectives. This year's event asks: what can you do to promote peace? "Neighbourhoods, cities and countries are more interconnected than ever before. YMCA Peace Week provides an opportunity for our community to be actively engaged in creating a peaceful world," said Darryl McKenzie, President and CEO at the YMCA of Oakville. Peace Week highlights the many dimensions of peace. Young people are encouraged to discuss peace issues and to connect with others who can support their desire to work for positive change. Peace Week kicked off with a Peace Breakfast on Friday, Nov. 25 at the local Y. This year's activities at the Oakville Y, located at 410 Rebecca St., include: · Yoga for Peace on Monday, Nov. 21 --there will be two free sessions of yoga at 1:15-2 p.m. and 7:30-8:15 p.m. · Habitat for Humanity Learning Session on Thursday, Nov. 24 -- a free session that explores Habitat's mission and work locally and globally from noon to 1 p.m. RSVP at carriefe@oakville.ymca.ca. · Coffee House for Youth on Friday, Nov. 25 -- free, live acoustic show with young musicians from 5 to 9 p.m. Proceeds from the concession will go to the Subject to Citizen Program.
