This book drives home the horror and the heroism of the fourday battle that resulted in over 10,000 Canadian casualties and forged Canada's identity as a nation. Douglas makes the cruel trench warfare of the First World War real again through interviews with Vimy veterans, which Douglas conducted back in the 1960s and 1980s, as well as previously unpublished letters from a Canadian soldier who wrote his family as his date with destiny on Vimy Ridge approached.
