Local ld driver up f for another h horse-racing O'Brien Award Dagys on all-academic team For the second year in a row, Scott Zeron is a finalist for the O'Brien Award for driver of the year. The 22-year-old Oakville native is up against a pair of veteran drivers, Jody Jamieson of Moffat, Ont. and Randy Waples of Milton. Zeron led Canadian drivers in victories for the second year in a row, chalking up 536 wins. While that was down from his 606 victories last year, Zeron almost doubled his winnings, collecting more than $8.1 million in purses. Zeron drove several stakes winners this season, including Battle of Waterloo winner Machapelo. The awards will be presented Jan. 28. Oakville soccer player Karly Dagys was recently named to the Southland Conference all-academic team. A junior forward at Southeastern Louisiana University, Dagys set a school record with 12 assists. She also scored five goals and was third on the team with 22 points, earning first-team all-Louisiana honours.
