The Rangers blitzed Orangeville 9-0 in the first game of the Richard Bell Memorial Tournament for both teams. The tournament continues today and concludes Friday. Goalie notched first shutout vs. former team Continued from page 39 See full Home Improvements section in The Oakville Beaver every Thursday his first eight decisions before closing the season with a four-game winning streak during which he allowed just eight goals and boasted a .937 save percentage. But this year, Erie brought back Sadikov and acquired Belleville starter Tyson Teichmann. Festerini got into a handful of games when Sadikov was injured, but the writing was clearly on the wall when he returned. "I felt I was never really given a fair opportunity in Erie," Festarini said. "My first two games to begin the year were against London and Kitchener -- teams we hadn't beat in five years -- and then I didn't see the ice again (apart from four relief appearances) for 31 games. I didn't start a home game until February." Festarini went 4-2 in his rare starts at home but it wasn't enough to elevate him in Erie. The trade to Niagara in the last week of October has put his career back on track, though. With Visentin away at the junior camp, Festarini exacted a measure of revenge, making 28 saves to earn his first career OHL shutout against Erie. Though the 7-0 final looked like a blowout, Festarini held his team in the game, making 16 saves in a scoreless first period before the IceDogs exploded for six goals in the second period. "I was prepared for that game. I was ready to go," he said. "It was a great feeling to show them I am capable at playing at this level." His shutout, combined with his 31-save effort in a 3-1 win two days later, earned him the Canadian Hockey League goaltender of the week honours. Though he knows he'll re-assume his backup duties once Visentin returns, Festarini is making the most of the opportunity. "I'm looking forward to it. I know I'll get the majority of the starts," Festarini said. "I'm just taking it one game at a time and preparing as well as I can." And if things don't go according to plan, Festarini is prepared to deal with that as well. "I learned a lot in Erie," he said. "It toughened me up." -- See page 44 for updates on Oakville's other Ontario Hockey League players
