"At first I found the pace a lot faster and the guys were a lot stronger but I seem to be able to keep up now. I still need to work on my strength in the summer, though." McGlynn opened the scoring in Monday's 4-3 win over the Hamilton Red Wings and had a pair of goals against the Milton IceHawks, a 3-1 Blades victory on Sunday. Two nights earlier, his power-play goal early in the third period put Oakville up 3-0 as the Blades went on to a 5-3 win over the Burlington Cougars. The three wins moved Oakville (25-7-5) within two points of first-place Georgetown in the OJHL's West Division. McGlynn practiced with the Blades a few times last season as the team made a run to the OJHL final. Now, he hopes to help Oakville get back there again. "The team's had great success in the past few years," McGlynn said, "and hopefully we'll have that same success this year." On that, he and his teammates can agree. Pink k in the h Rink k jerseys open for f bidding b dd Fans, friends, and family of the Oakville Blades are encouraged to bid for one of the team's gameworn Pink in the Rink jerseys. The special jerseys -- to be worn by Blades players during the team's annual breast cancer awareness fundraising night on Jan. 27 versus the Orangeville Flyers -- have potential to be hot collectibles among fans. Online bidding is open on the team's website at www. oakvilleblades.com The online auction allows the winning bidders to specify which jersey number they want, and what name they would like to put on the back of the jersey. It is expected that many bidders will choose to honour a relative who has fought breast cancer by putting that name on the jersey. Online bidding will close Jan. 20 to allow time for winners' names to be added to the backs of the jerseys in time for the Jan. 27 game. The winners will be able to see the names they have selected worn in game action, and each name and details of the person's relationship with breast cancer will be read out before the 7:30 p.m. game at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex. -- Visit www.oakvillebeaver.com for a longer version of this story Speed skating club hosting meet Oakville Speed Skating Club members are set to show off their latest progress on home ice. The Oakville Speed Skating Club has also enjoyed plenty of success at Ontario Cup meets in Cambridge, Newmarket and Clarington. "I was on the phone with a reporter who was asking me if Newman-Haas was shutting down and I was saying, `No.' Then I got a text from my dad, who is also my manager, that said, `Call me right now.' I mean, I knew they were struggling with sponsorships but at the end of the day, it's Newman-Haas. I never thought it would happen to them." Even though Hinchcliffe knows he was Andretti's second choice, he by no means looks at that as a negative. Quite the opposite, actually. "It's Dan's car, that was a well-known fact," the 25-year-old said. "It's a tough situation. I respect Dan so much as a driver and as a person, the fact that I was the next guy in line after him, it's incredi- bly humbling." Joining Andretti Autosports should only help Hinchcliffe. Andretti fielded a series-high four-car team last year, three of which finished in the top 10 in the final standings. In a year in which the series makes a switch to a new car, he said the extra laps driven by teammates will only benefit the team in collecting information to set up the cars on race day. If Hinchcliffe can turn in some strong results on the track, he might just put his own stamp on the green and black car -- and, as he says, become "the first Go Daddy guy." -- Herb Garbutt can be followed d on Twitter at @Herbgarbutt
