She has been an inspiration to us all and will be remembered for her enduring passion for living, her creativity, her generosity, and the unique and colourful way she lived her life. Sandra was born in Beamsville, Ont., daughter of Nettie and Ernest Wall and sister of Candace. She lived and attended school in Ajax, Ont., Natick, Mass. USA, Potter's Bar, England, Richmond Hill, Ont. and Pointe Claire, Que. She received a B.Sc. in math and physics at Queen's University in Kingston, Ont. During summer vacations, she worked as a computer programmer in Ottawa and Montreal for aerospace companies-one of the first women in Canada to work in the field of computers. In 1966, Sandra went to India as a Canadian University Service Overseas (CUSO) volunteer. She was assigned to an ashram near Benares in Uttar Pradesh to teach English to Indian children, by whom she became affectionately known as Sandra Didi (big sister Sandra). With her talent for languages, she became fluent in Hindi. Because of her computer skills, she was soon assigned to Delhi to run computerized grain trials at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute-work that became indispensable to India's agricultural strategy. On New Year's Eve, 1967, she met Clive Hodder, a volunteer from England, at a party, and the rest is history. During vacations, she and Clive travelled in northern India, Nepal, Sikkim and Bhutan. They were married in Delhi in June 1969. Since Sandra was requested by the Rockefeller Foundation to help the International Rice Research Institute in the Philippines with its rice trials, they honeymooned there. They travelled overland to England through Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran, Turkey, Greece and Italy, and arrived in Canada in the winter of 1969. Sandra worked as a computer programmer for Air Canada in Toronto and became their training instructor. A devoted mother, she took time off to raise two daughters, Alyssa and Candace, and looked for employment closer to home so that she could be with her children as much as possible. In the early 1980s, she was hired by Sheridan College as a part-time instructor and retired there as Director of Mobile Computing in 2009. An extraordinarily creative person, Sandra's diverse interests included tie-dyeing, batik, painting, gardening, reading, "non-recipe" cooking, sewing and keeping abreast of the latest fashions and decorating trends. Most days, you could find her in the garden, where she created stunning splashes of colour with her plantings. Sandra will be forever adored and remembered by her husband Clive, daughters Alyssa (husband Rob) and Candace (husband Andy), father Ernest and his late wife Nettie, sister Candy, niece and nephew Alexandra and Miller, granddaughter Cressida, her relatives on both sides of the family, and her many friends and colleagues. Donations in Sandra's memory may be made to the Ian Anderson House Foundation, Oakville, Ont.; the London Health Sciences Foundation (Nuclear Medicine Unit), London, Ont.; and Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital.
