www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Friday, January 20, 2012 · 14 Peace of Minds Yogathon is Feb. 25 at Appleby College Continued from page 10 make them feel isolated and without a path forward. That's where we come in. Our staff and volunteers provide that much needed support to help people identify the signs and symptoms of the illness, and also to navigate the complex healthcare system. Demand continues to increase. Three-quarters of our funding comes from individuals, and raising money is never easy at the best of times. The lingering economic uncertainty has been tough on charities, and mental health organizations are in a particularly difficult spot. To help raise awareness we launched a program called Peace of Minds. We use the plural "Minds" because the initiative is built on the fact that a network of friends and loved ones is absolutely vital and everyone deserves support from their communities. Next month, we are holding our seventh annual Peace of Minds Yogathon to raise money for youth engagement programs. Educating young people on the illness is crucial in both ensuring early intervention and reducing stigma. Yoga studios across Ontario are raising money for the cause. We are also holding two fun-filled yoga events -- in Oakville at Appleby College and Toronto at Steam Whistle -- on Feb. 25. We are aiming to raise $80,000 this year, a goal we cannot hope to reach without success in Oakville.
