The 23-year-old Oakville resident, who for many years was involved with Mississauga Youth Theatre, said Anne is a physical character to play, with over-the-top actions and gestures, and a quirky personality. "She's so open and honest and caring. She lets herself feel what she wants to feel, whether it's joy or anger," said Busteed, a graduate of the drama program at Queen's University. "Her emotions go from one extreme to another, which is part of the joy of playing her as well because you never know what's to happen next because she's so passionate and loving." Busteed says she's overjoyed with the opportunity to be part of the musical stage "She's so open and honest and caring. She lets herself feel what she wants to feel, whether it's joy or anger. Now you can painlessly lose those stubborn inches off arms, stomachs, buttocks, hips, etc., through for the part by re-reading the book and stomping to work the way she believes Anne would. The musical is based on the misadventures of Anne Shirley, a wildly independent orphan with fiery red hair and a temper to match. In the stage production, Anne is mistakenly sent to live with a plainspoken farmer and his spinster sister, who thought they were adopting a boy. It's all set to the backdrop of Prince Edward Island. Donna Feggans, the show's producer, said the play was first brought to the Meadowvale stage in 2002 and was brought back because it's such a "beloved family musical that's Canadian." Director Renee Beiforte says her goal was to capture the real and raw moments of the popular novel. "(I wanted to capture) real people in real circumstances and have it feel like a window into that time and into that story," she said. "I think her story is everyone's story," she continued, adding everyone wants a sense of community and family and a place to belong. Anne of Green Gables is the fourth play in Music Theatre Mississauga's 2011/12 Encore Series. The season continues with The Drowsy Chaperone in March. Tickets cost $24.50.
