The goal is to inspire youth to volunteer in our communities, develop new skills and broaden their awareness of community service organizations. The campaign kicks off with National Volunteer Week on April 15 and continues for three weeks until May 6. The initiative is funded by the Ministry of Citizenship and Immigration and supported by the Ontario Volunteer Centre Network. The 2012 goal is to get 25,000 students across Ontario to volunteer three hours to any initiative they choose. Various activities and events are set up to provide the opportunities they need. 2012 marks the fifth year the CTW campaign has promoted community service among local high school students. In Halton, the campaign has been growing year after year, increasing the number of students involved exponentially. While NVW was largely forgotten after the war ended, it experienced a revival in the late 1960s, when organizations stressed the importance of thanking community volunteers across Canada. NVW was reinstated and has since grown to become the largest celebration of civic participation in Canada. Volunteers: Passion. Action. Impact. is the theme of this year's NVW campaign. The theme recognizes the individual volunteers across Canada who dedicate themselves to improving their communities. Volunteers have a passion for getting involved, they take action to support the causes and organizations that are important to them, and they make an impact in communities across Canada and around the globe. nationalvolunteerweek.ca 2012 ChangeTheWorld Ontario Youth Volunteer Challenge nizing events and communicating with other students to encourage participation through Facebook and announcements at various committee meetings. Volunteer Halton is excited to be partnering with more agencies and schools than ever before with a total of more than 20 events and activities planned. SAVIS in Oakville, Links2Care, and Willow Park Ecological Centre are some of the Volunteer Halton members who have created exciting and diverse opportunities for young volunteers. It is this kind of work that attracts new volunteers and creates life-long passions for a particular cause or organization. That's what ChangeTheWorld is all about: fostering a commitment to volunteering. Activities include Burlington Green's Clean Up Green Up on April 21st in Burlington, Community Through Our Eyes Photo Challenge across all of Halton, and Sonar2Voice in Georgetown.
