The incident happened at around 10:20 p.m., when a Halton police officer, driving east on Dundas Street, approached Proudfoot Trail. Police reported that as the officer entered the intersection, a westbound vehicle turned south onto Proudfoot Trail and, in doing so, allegedly forced the officer to take evasive action to avoid a crash. The officer stopped the vehicle and after a brief interaction arrested the driver for impaired driving. Police said a breathalyzer reading found 260 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, more than three times the legal limit. The driver, whose name was not released by police because the breathalyzer reading amount was released to the media, was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and driving with over 80 mgs of alcohol in his system.
