MAN WITH BOBCAT MERRIAM, Marion Peacefully with her family at her side at Grey Bruce Health Services, Owen Sound, on Saturday, April 21, 2012. Marion Merriam (nee MacRobert) of Owen Sound in her 86th year. Beloved wife of the late Dr. Reginald Grant Merriam (Doc). Dear mother of Lissa Brown and her husband Aris Marinos of Toronto. Sadly missed by two grandchildren Chelsea Mogridge and Ryan Scott Strzalkowski and six great grandchildren. Also survived by her nieces and nephews Ann (Barry Vallier), Donald MacRobert (Pat Morin), Tim MacRobert, Lawrence MacRobert (Mary Ellen), Joel MacRobert (Paula), and Lynn (Cy Young), and her brother in law Gray Merriam (Aileen) and their children Mike (Kim Wolley) and Paul (Helena). Predeceased by a daughter Jane Merriam and a brother Gordon MacRobert (Claire Heels). Marion's caring heart led her to nurse's training at the former Owen Sound General & Marine Hospital where she graduated in 1948 (1 of 7-most becoming lifelong friends). She then nursed at the Wellesley in T.O. as her teammate & hubby, Grant, was studying at the University of Toronto's dental school. Following his graduation, they opened practices, 1st on Kerr St., then on Thomas St. in Oakville, in dentistry & oral surgery until 1988. Second only to her love & devotion to her family which was true, Marion was known for her affection for dogs & cats (Duffy, Rosebud...)-with her they were home. Many will attest to her handiwork as blankets of all sizes were received in the mail- a letter in her beautiful handwriting would cheer many a day when delivered 'by post'. AND, you could be certain of a warm smile of welcome & a cup of coffee, even if you arrived unannounced! Marion's life counted in more ways than can be expressed and she will be missed.
