Job opportunity lands some valuable workers Continued from page 1 5 · Friday, May 4, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com teacher at Wildwood. "This is great opportunity for them to get a sense of responsibility and take home a paycheck." The partnership between Wildwood and Tim Hortons arose through donations of snacks and coffee Edwards made to the school. After a pairing was suggested, the initiative began in earnest last May when the students went in for orientation and uniform fitting. Students Jeff Johnson, 19, and Adam Spicer, 18, appreciated the uniforms so much they held a mini fashion show to exhibit their new threads. Edwards believes the Wildwood students are not the only ones who are better for the experience. "We definitely learn from each other. It's been a learning process for both of us and a very positive one," said Edwards. "They come in just like everybody else, they punch in like everybody else and they get right to work. It's been such a positive learning experience, on both sides of the coin." The project has worked so well that Wildwood is considering expanding the program next year. "The program is an experiment for us but it is going so well that looking into next year, maybe we can find other places as well for different students. Whatever is going to meet the needs for them," said Porter. The students have left such an impression that their co-workers have grown quite attached to them. "Every day is a great memory with them. I love them. The way they react when you teach dents are looking at Tim Hortons as a potential employer down the road. "I've talked to the boys about what they want to do next year because they are too old for public school and high school. One student, Jeff, said he would want to work at Tim Hortons. If he could work at Tim Hortons everyday, that's what he would like to do," said Porter. "We'll take them every time," said Edwards. "All the team members here have loved the entire program and would love to see it continue. I think it's the best thing that could have happened to this store." I really enjoy it," said Weeda Shareqi, a Tim Hortons team member. When asked about the potential of the program, Edwards says she can see plenty of potential and encouraged other employers to take part. "I would absolutely love to see other employers follow this example," she said. "I think it would be excellent for them to span across all kinds of employment, not just Tim Hortons. They're just as capable."
