Electrical problem temporarily closes Holiday Inn in Bronte By Dominik Kurek OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF An electrical problem that brought Oakville firefighters to the Holiday Inn Hotel & Suites in Bronte early Monday has left the 2525 Wyecroft Rd. hotel without power, forcing it to close. "Right now, it's shut down. They have no electricity in the building at all," said Deputy Fire Chief Brian Durdin yesterday morning. Four fire trucks responded to the scene where the Oakville Fire Department reported an electrical short had caused a fire in the hotel's electrical room and electrical transformer. Fire officials estimated $150,000 in damage to the hotel's electrical equipment. No structural damage was reported. When firefighters arrived, the fire was out. "The fire was essentially suppressed by the sprinkler system that was working in the building," Durdin said. "Our task was more moving smoke, and search and rescue because with no power, we actually had to go floor by floor, room by room to make sure all the tenants were safely out, once we got rid of the smoke." No injuries were reported. The Fire Marshal's Office determined a short caused the fire. There is no word as to what caused the electrical short or when the hotel will re-open. `"All guests and employees were safely relocated to a neighbouring hotel," read a statement from Chantal Nappart of Westmont Hospitality Group. "We are working closely with local authorities to restore power at the hotel and expect to return to normal operations in the next few days." The fire has caused some meetings to change venues at the last minute. A Baha'i meeting Monday moved to the Quality Inn. 3 · Wednesday, May 16, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Inside Opinion............................................6 Artscene.........................................23 Sports.............................................25 Classified.......................................29 Full Delivery: Real Estate, Barbecues Galore, 3 for 1 Glasses, Hearing Solutions, Home Sweet Linens, AAR Automotive, Ishrani Henry - RE/MAX, Arif Qureshi, JYSK, Home Hardware, Rona, Ontario Tourism, Shopping News, City Parent, Bouclair, Home Depot, Staples, Sheridan Nurseries, XS Cargo, Sears For home delivery & customer service call 905-845-9742 Mon., Tues. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wed., Thu., and Fri. 9 a.m.-7 p.m. (open for calls only after 5 p.m.) Closed Sat. and Sun.
