A flock of cranes -- the building kind, not birds -- have arrived at the new Oakville hospital site on Dundas Street at Third Line. Six soaring cranes have been installed by Hospital Infrastructure Partners (HIP). "A lot of work has gone into preparing the site for this milestone including locating all utilities servicing the site; digging stormwater ponds; top-soil stripping and earth grading. You may not be able to see it from street level, but the property is a full-fledged construction site now," said John Oliver, president and CEO of Halton Healthcare Services (HHS) in a press release. "In the coming months, this building will literally rise out of the ground before our eyes," said Oliver. The cranes, which vary in height from 116 ft. to 261 ft., are clearly visible for motorists driving along Dundas Street or north on Third Line. "We have already, as a community, built a strong foundation for this hospital, beginning with a shared vision to create an innovative hospital environment with a focus on health and healing," said Oliver. "We are now ready to turn that foundation, of collective will and community effort, into a new foundation of stone, concrete and steel. The facility is no longer just a concept we've been developing on paper, it now has a physical presence in our community -- a very prominent one at that." "Achieving this milestone is great news for the Oakville community as the cranes are a visible sign that the construction of the New Oakville Hospital is creating hundreds of high-quality jobs and how close we are to witnessing the physical building taking shape," said % Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn.
